Although the coronavirus does not frequently infect dogs, sheltered dogs are negatively affected by this pandemic. Due to the negative economic effects of COVID-19, there has been a reduction of funds at many animal shelters. Shelters across the nation have been forced to close their doors to many dogs in need. This is extremely problematic! Many people have been abandoning more dogs and fewer people have been willing to adopt animals because people cannot financially support their animals. Fewer animals adopted means that more shelters are full, unfortunately causing more animals to be euthanized.
Although shelters are in a crisis, you can help!
WAYS TO HELP:
1. If you cannot adopt, consider fostering an animal, even for a short period of time until the pandemic is over.
2. If you cannot foster a dog, you can do so virtually by donating money to shelters and organizations such as the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)!
HOW YOUR DONATION SAVES LIVES WHEN YOU DONATE TO THE ASPCA:
Your donation could allow animal shelters to provide care packages for families whose financial circumstances make it difficult for them to care for their pets.
A $25 donation could feed a rescued cat or dog for a month.
A $35 donation could provide enrichment toys for a rescued animal.
A $50 donation could pay for a rescued animal’s medical exam.
A $150 dollar donation could pay for the medical examination of a litter of five puppies or kittens.
Your donation will help animals stay in their homes and support shelters who are continuously rescuing homeless dogs.
The WeCareFundraiser Board has created a donation page on the ASPCA website where you can donate an impact an animal's life.
“Be the voice, not an echo.”
As a group of teenagers whose goal is to raise awareness of injustice in the world and support the community around us, we feel that it would be imprudent to not discuss the injustices that African Americans have been facing.
We believe that each of us is responsible for standing up for justice through the exercise of our voices and we encourage you to do the same.
Albert Einstein's words, “Be the voice, not an echo” are extremely relevant to the current issue of racism. We need to make sure that our individual voices are heard. We want change. We support the Black Lives Matter movement and protests and want justice. Make your cries for change unique: create art depicting the plight of African Americans in our society today, start your own petitions, write your own blogs, or even podcasts. Let's do more than just post on social media! The possibilities are endless.
We want you to know that we are here for you during these challenging times. We completely support the belief that “your voice can change the world”- Barack Obama.
